Dr Cat's News Update - July 2019 name

I’m off overseas again to a massively packed schedule, to the UK-Geneva-Pringy-Sydney for less than two weeks. In the UK I’ll do my London Clinic, and visit my wonderful colleague Dr. Sophie Shotter to observe at her clinic (Sophie is up for an award for the safest cosmetic doctor in the UK!). There’s dinner planned with some of the Allergan (Botox and Juvederm) trainers based in the UK, and a fabulous ’author's evening’ with esteemed journalist Alice Hart-Davies, who wrote THE book on ’Tweakments’, and Dr Johanna Ward, who recently released her second book ’Super Foods For Super Health’.

From the UK, I travel to Geneva, which is the closest major airport to the Juvederm factory in Pringy, France. It’s a real honour to be invited to the factory, and will give me an even deeper understanding of the Juvederm products, how they are made, and upcoming future developments. I then get to share this information with other leading cosmetic doctors in some teaching and facilitation opportunities that I’ve been asked to be involved in. I’m mega-excited about this opportunity, and grateful to have been invited 🙏

The next stop is Sydney, where I will join Dr Jenni for 2 days of advanced training on MD Codes - one of the techniques we use for our filler treatments - from the inventor of the codes, Dr Mauricio de Maio. Our Allergan Trainers’ faculty meeting is the day after, on Wednesday, and I will then join some of the Australian doctors who are trainers for Allergan at the Vogue Australia ’Beauty Decoded’ event on Thursday. Looking at the lineup, I’m the only NZ doctor to be involved, which is really exciting!

Fortunately, I’ve just got back from a wonderful break in Bali for 10 days, meaning I am going into this craziness feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I immediately relax as soon as I step off the plane in Bali!

I joined five other female entrepreneur friends at ’Palm Tree House’ - the sister retreat to the award-winning Escape Haven retreat, owned by my beautiful friend Janine Hall - for our inaugural ’Bali Boss Babes’ retreat.

Escape Haven won Conde Nast ’Best Luxury Women’s Retreat’ globally, and I’ve had the great fortune to attend about 4-5 times! Janine’s new retreat, Palm Tree House, offers women's only weeks as well as a few special pop-up co-ed options for groups, couples, solo travellers and a mums and bubs option. Palm Tree House offers the same luxury service as Escape Haven, in smaller, more private villas. We stayed at Villa Aroha, and fell in love with the wonderful team there! Our chef, Tin-Tin, created the most magnificent healthy and delicious food, and we had a pool party with the most divine spa treatments, and a floating platter! Check out the photos to see how gorgeous it was!

From there we went to Alila Villas in Uluwatu for 2 days and did sunrise SUP Yoga on the infinity pool, and aerial yoga, which was challenging and a lot of fun! As part of the week, we all had the opportunity to share our business opportunities and challenges, and get feedback from the other ’Boss Babes’.

Anju, who owns Abhati Skincare and is about to receive an award from the UN (for her work supporting girls orphanages with funds raised from her sales), presented some of the exciting opportunities that are coming her way, in a session in the balé looking over the cliff. I love how business is becoming so much more collaborative, especially with women in business supporting each other!

We then had four days scuba diving, snorkeling, sunrises, sunsets, lots of chatting, and beautiful scenery in Komodo National Park on board the stunning ’Tiger Blue’ sailing ship. I love being in, on and around the water, and all of us are ’active relaxers’, so it was one if the best ways to completely relax! We saw hoards of bats fly out through a bright orange-pink sunset, had ’sundowners’ on a pink sand beach, and a delicious picnic lunch taken by tender to a secluded beach.

We hiked with Komodo Dragons, dived with sea turtles, and snorkeled with manta rays and black tip reef sharks. The diving was some of the best I’ve experienced, with the most exquisite soft and hard corals, and walls of beautiful tropical fish! We got to see big tooth tuna and giant trevally stalk their prey, and I did my first night dive in a long time...  I have came back feeling completely refreshed and ready for a busy work schedule!

The trip to Bali was the first plane trip in three years where I haven't had a book to write, so I thoroughly enjoyed reading Michelle Obama’s ’Becoming’, and a true life story about a neurosurgeon who develops lung cancer in his 30’s, and tells his story in such an eloquent way, while taking me back to my high-stress surgical training days, and sharing the journey from being a top doctor to becoming a patient. ’When Breath Becomes Air’ had me sobbing and laughing in my plane seat - I highly recommend both books, they are beautifully written.

I came back to NZ for four days between my trips, working full days, so also got to see the rough ’check’ copy of our new book ’Grow Younger With Great Food’ before we sent it off to the printers! OMG, it’s so beautiful! Even the printers say that it’s some of the best food photography they’ve seen!

My lovely flatmate Amy has Good Food Kitchen, a catering company that specialises in accommodating allergies and food sensitivities, and she used a couple of our recipes (she is lucky, she got advanced access as I asked her to review some of the recipes for us), and raves about them! I can’t wait until our book is released in October into all major bookstores. If you haven't signed up to receive one of the first copies at our special client rate yet (plus, they'll be signed), you can do that right now by clicking here.

There’s a lot happening for us in the media - keep an eye on Viva for articles about sexual rejuvenation ’Bringing your sexy back’ and the impact of sleep on your skin; Verve magazine about our new book; and Channel magazine talking about ’Sex, Botox and Skin Care’. I’m also talking with some journalists from Tatler while I’m in the UK, and if you missed my interview on the AM Show about better regulation of fillers in NZ, you can check it out here!

I hope July is less hectic for you than my schedule, and that you get to escape the winter cold for some sunshine somewhere!

Have the most incredible month!

Love and hugs,

Dr Cat 😻😘
