Dr Cat's News Update June 2021 name

Wow, how are we halfway through the year already?! I hope you are all wrapping up warm with the chilly days we are experiencing, and staying away from the winter colds. 🥶

We are coming into the even colder winter months, and with the uncertainty of the bubbles with Australia, I know I’m nervous about escaping to warmer climes like I normally would! To use the extra time I have in the country, the team has got me doing lots of pieces in the media and some extra training and workshops, as well as having some exciting new nurses joining our team!

We’ve been busy in the media recently, with me being interviewed on both TV and radio about the need for better regulation in our industry. The UK recently passed a law protecting people under the age of 18 from having cosmetic injectables, which I wholeheartedly agree with. You can see the full interview with TVNZ here. There is also a 7-page profile in Haven magazine on me and my home (see the photo above), and the stunning surrounds I live in - I’m very blessed to live right in a park!

NZ Business magazine did a great article on us, and if you’ve been travelling around NZ by plane, you might have seen my profile in the latest Kia Ora magazine. Keep an eye out for upcoming articles in Mindfood, Viva, Canvas, M2, and Headway

It was so cool to see myself in the Kia Ora magazine when I caught a flight to Rotorua recently!

In this last month we’ve had our quarterly team training day, with a focus on new techniques for tear troughs, temple hollowing and using our most structural filler, Juvederm Volux, into the jawline and cheekbone for even better shape and lift.

This was quickly followed by our Vampire Academy, teaching the globally licenced Vampire treatments which use PRP to regenerate tissues in a specific way with the Vampire Facial Plus, Vampire Facelift, Vampire Breastlift, O-Shot and P-Shot.

We talk a lot in the media about sexual rejuvenation with the O-Shot and P-Shot (and the positive side effect of treating a leaky bladder with the O-Shot and ThermiVa), but the recent Vampire Academy reminded me of the wonderful benefits of the Vampire Breastlift and Vampire Facelift, which I don’t talk about as much. Both use a similar concept of using PRP with a hyaluronic filler to create beautiful, soft, natural-looking shape and contour to either the face or cleavage area of the breast, often associated with an improvement in the skin texture in the treated areas.

While the Vampire Breastlift does not give the same result as a surgical breastlift, it can gently enhance the upper pole of the breast (which - whether you have big breasts or little breasts - shrinks as women get older, and after breastfeeding) helping your breasts look better in a bra.

We have our senior nurses Kaitlin and Marjorie going on maternity leave in July and August, so I’m delighted that we have some wonderful experienced nurses joining our team.

Hannah starts this week, and has a similar background to Eve and Felicia, so is very experienced in wrinkle relaxer and fillers. For her skills test, Dee our GM was treated, and she said it was the most painless treatment and best result she has ever had, so we are super excited to welcome Hannah on board!

We will also have NZ’s first cosmetic nurse practitioner when Esme starts this month! A nurse practitioner is quite special, as they have the same prescribing rights and responsibilities as a GP, after doing significant extra study. Esme is passionate about cosmetic injecting, and even paid for her own training internationally just before Covid hit last year. We are delighted to have her joining our team, and she will be supporting me in supporting our incredible nurses.

Eve will be slowly coming back from maternity leave with one day a week, so her regulars will be looking forward to seeing her and catching up.

We also now have Felicia completely trained in The Face Place ‘way’ and she will be taking over a lot of Sonia’s patients in Takapuna. Felicia has a particular talent for lip fillers, and so has been crowned our new ‘lip queen’!

As part of the Allergan Faculty, I’m doing some training on wrinkle relaxer and dermal fillers for local industry in the next few months, so I’m definitely being kept busy!

While I haven’t been able to get to warm and exotic places like I normally do at this time of year, I had a wonderful trip to Rotorua with a retreat with my Entrepreneurs' Organisation forum. We mixed up work and planning with some amazing experiences, including a wonderfully welcoming powhiri just for our small group of eight, a private night-time tour of the Te Puia geyser (including kumara steamed pudding cooked in a hot pool - it was yum!), zipline canopy tours through the forest facing our fear of heights, and a stunning Māori-themed degustation dinner made for us in our villa by Kasey and Karena Bird, from My Kitchen Rules. It’s been a long time since I visited Rotorua, so it was lovely to experience it all over again, including a quick trip to Polynesian Spa!

No overseas travel but I'm pretty excited to be exploring New Zealand with friends!

It was my dad’s birthday on 9 May (also Mother’s Day) and my brother Jamie and I managed to get back up to Russell to help him celebrate. Last year we were in lockdown and had to celebrate his 70th birthday virtually, so it was lovely to just hang out and invest some quality time this year. So far, the chemo is keeping him stable and there has been no further deterioration of his bone marrow, but we are definitely more aware of making the most of our time with him. It is a big reminder that family and friends are so important!
