Unwanted Hair

Quick facts

  • Laser treatment for hair reduction helps to reduce hair growth in the long-term by permanently damaging the hair follicle the hair grows from
  • Multiple sessions are usually required to achieve good results, as all permanent hair reduction therapies can only treat hair in the active phase of growth – and up to 80% of hair is in the non-treatable dormant phase at any one time
  • The area to be treated can be shaved before your treatment, but should not be waxed or plucked
  • Laser for hair reduction works best on darker hair, and is less effective on fine, blonde or white hair. Your results will be dependant on the machine used and the expertise of the operator performing the treatment

Will I need an initial consultation?

Yes, as with all of our services, you must have an initial-consultation before proceeding with your first treatment - regardless of if you have had this treatment elsewhere. This ensures you are fully educated and informed before proceeding with treatment. We are a best-practice clinic and consistently deliver optimal results by placing paramount importance on education and informed consent.

How does laser hair reduction work?

The combination of both radio-frequency and light energy in the elōs technology, is an innovative and exciting development in the treatment of hair removal. With this approach,  you can achieve permanent hair reduction while minimising the light energy required for effective treatment, hence reducing the risk of  undesired side effects.

Pulses of light energy are attracted to the darker colour pigment in the shaft of the hair and convert the light to heat energy, in the same way that a black top attracts the sun’s rays and creates heat. The shaft of the hair then transmits this heat down to the growing part of the hair, the hair follicle. Once the hair follicle is heated to a certain level, it is permanently destroyed.

With Elos technology, radiofrequency (RF) waves are combined with the light energy of the laser. RF is attracted to this heated area and heat it further, increasing the effectiveness of permanent hair reduction while reducing the risk of any undesirable light-associated side effects.

Some of the poor quality or low power laser/IPL machines available on the market today cannot generate enough power to permanently damage the hair follicle, and instead temporarily ‘stun’ it, and so provide more of a temporary ‘laser wax’ than a permanent hair reduction.
