Of all the cosmetic injectables, fillers take the most skill and artistry. At The Face Place, it is the last procedure that our clinicians are taught, usually around 12 months after they first start injecting, after they have developed their injecting skills, anatomical knowledge and clinical eye.
Fillers can have serious consequences when injected by inexperienced clinicians, or if the wrong filler is used. Not only are we seeing too many puffy lips and faces - due to too much filler being placed into the wrong parts of the face - as less experienced or poorly trained injectors hit the low cost market, but there is a very real risk of filler-induced blindness or necrosis (death) of tissue if they block a blood vessel and aren’t aware of what to look for, or how to treat it.
Choosing an experienced injector who uses quality products is so important - this is your face, and you have to look at it in the mirror every day. You are having these treatments to look and feel better!
Just like makeup, filler results can be stunning when done to enhance your natural beauty, but unlike makeup, can literally destroy your face if not administered correctly.
Choose your clinician well - if they look weird, don’t hesitate to delay or cancel your appointment... their face usually reflects their aesthetic, and if you don’t want to look like them, then avoid being injected by them! Dermal fillers increase volume, soften wrinkles, enhance lips, and restore the youthful three-dimensional contours of the face. Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected into the skin to physically lift and sculpt it, correcting wrinkles, folds, scars and asymmetries of the face.

There are many filler choices available on the market. At The Face Place MedSpa™ we only use hyaluronan-based fillers. These products are totally biodegradable and safe. Hyaluronan is a sugar molecule found naturally in our bodies, which we lose from our skin as we age, making the skin drier and more fragile. By injecting hyaluronan directly back into the skin at different depths, we can achieve beautiful, instant results. At The Face Place we use fillers to reduce lines and folds, to assist in filling out larger volume loss such as sunken cheeks, to correct 'concerns' such as small cheekbones and chin or certain nose shapes, and even to plump up aging or bony hands.
Typical Dermal Filler treatments and areas include:
Other treatments include using dermal fillers for acne scars, filling and lifting the mid face, hollow temples, forehead enhancement, earlobes, brow-lift and the ‘liquid facelift’.

Good filler is invisible. A lot of people are scared of having filler, as they only see the ‘bad work’ that is out there. It’s understandable, we wouldn’t want puffy lips and cheeks either! Great filler work isn’t visible, it just helps you look (and feel) refreshed and enhanced. It should help you step into the best version of you, so you love what you see when you look in the mirror!
Often we will provide filler treatments in several stages, so we get continuous, subtle but significant changes, and just keep looking better and better.
Some fillers are reversible, but not all of them. Look for HA (hyaluronic acid) based fillers - good brand names include Juvederm, Belotero, Teosyal, Emervel and Restylane (although Restylane is now an older technology).
HA fillers can be dissolved quickly and easily by using the enzyme Hyalase - once injected, it starts working in about 5-10 minutes, and has usually completed its job in about 48 hours. It can be used to blend a result that’s ‘not quite right’, or to dissolve filler complications such as nodules (lumps) and vascular occlusion (a blocked blood vessel).
No. Our face shape and bone structure age as we grow older, so injecting permanent dermal filler can cause significant issues. Permanent dermal fillers can not easily adjust to the eventual skin and bone changes that will occur with time and ageing processes. Yes, even your facial bones will shrink and atrophy over time. Using permanent fillers or permanent cosmetic injections can leave you looking ‘quite unusual’ in just a few years’ time, hence our decision to only use temporary, high quality dermal filler.
