Jaw Clenching and Teeth Grinding

Jaw clenching and teeth grinding, also known as Bruxism, can lead to pain, tension headaches, migraines, jaw problems and hearing or oral health issues.

We understand the pain and frustration associated with teeth grinding/jaw clenching and have been offering relief, using muscle relaxers, for over a decade.

There is no definitive answer. It varies from person to person. Possible causes include, but are not limited to, stress and anxiety. Often Bruxism occurs subconsciously or during sleep, so individuals are sometimes unaware until issues arise.

The main jaw muscle is called the masseter muscle. When this muscle is overactive it gets bigger and stronger. By injecting small amounts into the masseter muscle, we can relax it, reducing its size, making it less active and reducing tension. Over a period of time, the treatment results in the muscle losing its innate memory to clench and clenching no longer occurs subconsciously.

As with all our injectable services the first step is to an Initial Injectable Consultation with one of our medical team. We will leave enough time for you to have treatment on the day of your consultation, should you wish to proceed.

The treatments are quick and simple with a few tiny injections into the muscle which feel like small pinches. The dose of muscle relaxer will depend on the size of your muscle and discussed with you as part of your initial consultation.

You will feel a release in the tension, your pain will improve, and your grinding should stop. You may see a slimming in your lower face making it look less square.

There is no down time or recovery time. You can start to feel and see results within 14 days with the full effect occurring by 6 weeks. Results will last between 3-6 months

Weakening of the chewing muscle and tenderness around the injection site can occur. These side effects are rare and temporary.

To find out if this injectable treatment is right for you, contact us for an Initial Injectable Consultation with one of our medical team. Book online here or give us a call on 0800 267 633
