PRP For Hair Loss

Hair loss occurs in both men and women and can significantly affect a person’s self-perception and self confidence. While medical treatments such as Finasteride (Propecia) and Minoxidil (Regaine) can cause unwanted side effects, there’s a safe and simple medical treatment that can thicken hair and be used alone, or alongside other hair loss treatments.

We’re renowned as leaders in skin treatments, dermal fillers and BotoxⓇ, but one of most popular treatments right now is none of the above. In fact, it’s this – an innovative treatment for thinning hair called platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

The beauty of PRP is that all you need is your own blood – it’s highly effective but also very safe. Platelet-rich plasma is simply the healing parts of your own blood, taken from a blood sample and concentrated in a centrifuge machine. One vial of blood will yield about 20 little syringes of PRP. When this solution is injected into any area on the body, it floods the area with growth factors and rejuvenates at a cellular level. When injected specifically into the scalp, it stops the hair from miniaturising (getting smaller and thinner), and helps ‘wake up’ existing hair follicles, reversing hair thinning.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) has been proven to help with thinning hair – we recommend a course of 3-6 treatments, results may vary.

FAQs

What's the first step?

You must have an Initial Injectable Consultation before proceeding with your first treatment – regardless of if you have had this treatment elsewhere. This ensures you are fully educated and informed before proceeding with treatment. We are a best-practice clinic and consistently deliver optimal results by placing paramount importance on education and informed consent.

How does PRP help with thinning hair?
PRP uses tiny injections of your own platelets and plasma isolated from a small sample of blood to ‘tell’ your body to repair whatever tissue you put it into, and rejuvenate it at a cellular level. When used for hair loss, it stops the hair from miniaturising (getting smaller and thinner), and helps to ‘wake up’ existing hair follicles, reversing hair thinning. If the hair follicle has already completely died then you won’t be able to stimulate it to grow hair, so PRP usually works best in people who have started noticing their hair thinning in the last 2-3 years.
Does PRP for hair loss hurt?
Your PRP is administered with tiny injections – either similar to those that diabetics use for their insulin, or with a specialised ‘mesogun’.

Most people tolerate these procedures well and would describe the procedure as ‘pinchy’ in places and almost painless in others.

Is there any downtime?
After your PRP treatment, you will need to be very aware of scalp hygiene for the next 48 hours and avoid washing hair. You will also need to avoid touching your head for at least 2 hours to allow injection sites to close. If you do need to touch your head, wash your hands before touching injected areas.

You will be able to proceed with all normal activities however, you will need to keep the area free of all hair products for at least 24 hours after treatment.

How long will it take to see PRP for hair results?
Results vary per individual but on average you can expect to see results around 4-6 months.
