How to Get Your Skin Summer Ready (and Why to Start Now)
If you’re anything like me, the moment we start seeing longer days and warmer evenings, I start thinking about summer. The social events, the holidays, the outfits, and, of course, getting my skin to look its absolute best. But here’s something I wish more people understood: good skin doesn’t happen in a week. It happens when we give our skin the right treatments, preparation, and time to respond.
As we come out of winter, it’s common for the skin to appear dull, dehydrated, and a little tired. Cooler weather, indoor heating, and changes in our skincare routines can all contribute to a skin barrier that needs a little extra attention. Then, as we head towards the end of the year, the diary starts filling up with Christmas parties, weddings, holidays, and summer events. Suddenly, everyone wants their skin to look brighter, smoother, and more refreshed, and they want it yesterday.
But the reality is that many treatments that deliver meaningful improvements in pigmentation, skin texture, and collagen require time, preparation, and a carefully planned treatment schedule. There is a window to achieve what we can safely and effectively before summer, and October is a good time to start thinking about your treatment plan.
Why timing matters
One of the biggest mistakes I see in the skin industry is leaving everything until the last minute. We often have clients coming in a few weeks before an event wanting to address pigmentation, improve their skin texture or give their skin a complete refresh. While there are treatments that can provide a beautiful, immediate glow, the results from collagen stimulation, skin renewal, and pigmentation correction take time.
Your skin needs time to respond to treatment. Collagen remodelling doesn't happen overnight, and neither does improving skin quality. The treatment itself is only one part of the process. Preparation, spacing treatments appropriately, and supporting your skin with the right home care all play a role in the result.
Think of it like preparing for a big event. You wouldn't leave everything until the night before and expect the same outcome as someone who has planned. Your skin deserves that same level of consideration.
The closing window: What can we do now?
IPL and pigmentation
If you've been thinking about IPL to address pigmentation, sun damage or redness, now is a good time to start exploring your options.
IPL is generally best suited to the cooler months, as the treatment can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight and requires careful consideration around UV exposure. As we head into summer, it's important to plan ahead and understand which treatments are appropriate for your skin.
Not all pigmentation is the same, and different types may require completely different approaches. What may look like sun damage could be melasma or another type of pigmentation that needs a more tailored treatment plan.
Rather than assuming IPL is the right solution, come in for a consultation so we can properly assess your skin, understand your concerns, and recommend the most appropriate approach for you.
Resurfacing and collagen-stimulating treatments
Treatments such as SkinPen and Exion RF Needling can be valuable options for clients seeking to improve skin texture and quality and support collagen production. Both treatments help stimulate the skin's natural healing response and encourage collagen remodelling, supporting healthier, stronger skin over time.
However, these treatments are not designed to deliver their full results overnight. Collagen production and skin remodeling take time, which is why appropriate preparation, treatment spacing, and post-treatment care are so important.
Depending on your skin, your clinician may recommend a course of treatments and allow time between appointments for your skin to recover and respond.
The goal isn't to rush through treatments to meet a deadline. It's to give your skin the time and support it needs to achieve the best possible outcome.
The Summer Glow Package
This is exactly why we have created our Summer Glow Package at The Face Place.
Good skin doesn't happen in a week. It happens when the right treatments are thoughtfully sequenced and given time to work.
Our Summer Glow Package is an eight-week treatment plan that combines some of our advanced skin treatments into one carefully considered programme. Rather than booking treatments one at a time without a clear plan, we bring them together to support hydration, skin quality, radiance and collagen stimulation.
We have two options available, with either SkinPen or Exion RF Needling, depending on your skin concerns, treatment suitability and goals.
If you've been considering needling but haven't taken the plunge, this can be a great opportunity to explore what a structured treatment plan could do for your skin. And if you've had needling in the past, a carefully planned course can be a lovely way to build on previous results and give your skin a little extra support as you head into summer.
Both packages include NCTF skin booster treatments, Healite, and a radiance facial, alongside your chosen needling treatment. The treatments are designed to work together, with appropriate spacing to allow your skin time to respond.
The eight-week programme is something to start planning sooner rather than later, particularly if you have summer events coming up. October gives us a useful timeframe to discuss your goals, assess your skin and determine whether the package is suitable for you.
As always, your treatment plan should be individualised. Not every treatment is appropriate for every skin, and a consultation with one of our clinicians is the best place to start.
A few things you can do at home
Professional treatments are only one part of achieving healthy skin. What you do at home can make a real difference to how your skin responds and how well you maintain your results.
1. Focus on your skin barrier. Coming out of winter, prioritise hydration and barrier support before introducing too many active ingredients. Healthy skin is the foundation of any treatment plan.
2. Wear your sunscreen. Daily broad-spectrum SPF is essential, particularly when addressing pigmentation or undergoing skin-renewing treatments. Reapply as needed and don't forget your hat and sunglasses.
3. Don't overdo your actives. More isn't always better. Too many exfoliating acids or active ingredients can leave your skin sensitised. If you're having treatments, check with your clinician about what to use and what to pause.
4. Give your skin time. Avoid the temptation to add more treatments or products simply because you want faster results. Consistency and the right treatment plan will always be more valuable than rushing.
