  • Avoid facials or massage to the treated area(s) for 5 days.
  • Avoid brow waxing or tattooing for two weeks if you are having your upper face treated.
  • You may wear makeup and cleanse your face as normal
  • Remember, it may take 10-14 days to see your full results!
  • We will take your ‘after’ photos and assess your results at your 2 week follow up appointment. If you would like to have further treatment, we can do this during the appointment. The follow-up consultation is complimentary; however, we do charge for additional Xeomin® or Botox® units should they be required during your follow-up appointment.
  • You should return for further treatment after 3 months or when you start to notice the lines or wrinkles coming back.  You can pre-book your next appointment, or we can contact you in three months to enquire how you are and remind you to book an appointment!

During the first 24-48 hours you may experience swelling, redness and tenderness in the treated areas. This is normal and will pass quickly. You may feel some lumps for the first few weeks, which soften and integrate into the tissues over 2-4 weeks. Please contact us for anything you are not sure about.

The following guidelines are recommended in the first 24-48 hours after your treatment:

  • It is best if you can keep the area free of cosmetics and avoid using active skin products containing AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids/Glycolic), BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acids) and Retinoid based products.
  • According to international guidelines, makeup should not be applied until the following day after filler. We recommend mineral-based makeup.
  • Apply cool compresses to the treated areas to relieve swelling and any possible bruising. We recommend that patients rinse a washcloth in ice water and then apply gently to the area. Do not apply ice directly to the skin. Alternatively, a non-drowsy antihistamine such as Loratadine can be purchased over the counter and is a great alternative.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, gardening and extremes of hot (e.g. spa/sauna) and cold (e.g. ice direct to skin, cold plunges) for the rest of the day.
  • Drink water regularly during the day (approx 6-8 glasses daily)
  • You may take Panadol or
similar medication if the treated areas are tender. If possible, please
avoid anti-inflammatory medicines in the first 2-3 days.
  • You may feel some lumps in the treated areas in the first 4-6 weeks until the product settles. This
is normal, and the treated areas may feel ‘denser’ than untreated skin
on an ongoing basis. If there are any visible lumps, these can often be
improved by your clinician at your follow up appointment. Please do not massage these yourself.
  • Please attend your follow up appointment 2-6 weeks after your treatment. You will be able to see your ‘before and after’ photos, and we get to see your results!
  • Do not have any skin peels or in-clinic facial treatments, facial waxing, IPL
or laser treatments for 10-14 days after your dermal filler treatment.
Laser resurfacing is best done after the filler has disappeared from
your skin. Do not apply pressure to the treated area and avoid sleeping face down.

  • A more serious complication following the administration of hyaluronidase
is an allergic reaction. These may be local reactions including swelling, redness, pain and itching and can be treated with non-drowsy antihistamines.
  • Anaphylaxis, although very rare,
has occurred with the use of hyaluronidase. Should you feel unwell,

Patience is required: swelling may be present for 24 to 48 hours. It will go down! Use cool compresses on the treated area to reduce swelling if really necessary.  Ideally, it is best to avoid use of anything that reduces the swelling too quickly.

Be very aware of hygiene for the next 48 hours:

  • Keep the treated area clean
  • If you had PRP on your face, avoid make-up for 24 hours, and then use mineral-based make up
  • Avoid activities that may leave your face or the treated area dirty e.g. gardening

Avoid touching your face or treated area for at least two hours to allow injection sites to heal over.  If you do need to touch the face, wash your hands before touching injected areas to avoid introducing external infection.

Your treated area will feel a bit tender for a few days. Mild bruising is likely; this is not a bad thing as it causes an increase in platelets to the area. However, if bruises are painful or too unsightly, you can use a tiny amount of Arnica cream, tablets or spray to speed the recovery or Hirudoid® cream, which can be applied to the area to help the body metabolise the bruise at a greater speed.

Avoid the following activities for at least 48 hours as they will increase the swelling and the possibility of bruising:

  • Exposure to prolonged sunlight
  • Rigorous exercise
  • Saunas
  • Hot baths
  • Cold plunges
  • Excessive amounts of alcohol (However a celebration drink is acceptable!)

It is essential that you attend your review appointment 3 months after your final treatment so that we can compare with your ’before’ photos and ensure ideal results are achieved.

Intimate Wellness Aftercare

It is normal to experience tingling and pelvic floor muscle contractions during the procedure. These will not persist after the treatment is completed.

You may resume daily activities immediately after your treatment. There is no need to change anything in your usual routine.

Some people report feeling a bit tired or weary after an Emsella treatment. We do recommend you hydrate well and have a snack after your treatment. Your pelvic floor muscles have just had an intense workout, so a "post workout snack” is recommended.

Remember to pre-book your series of appointments so you can lock in the schedule that suits you best. Please wear lower garments that are not too thick, or tight fitting, when you come in for your next appointment.

Please contact us at 0800 267 633 if you have any concerns or feedback. If this is after hours, please follow the prompts on our messaging system, so you can be connected to our Medical Team Leader.
